Evidence and access conditions
A map label should explain what supports it.
Access status describes the claim. The evidence label describes what moderators checked. Read both, together with the local conditions and linked sources.
Explore the mapAccess status
- Allowed
- The record describes access as allowed for the stated place and activity, subject to any notes.
- Conditional
- Access depends on conditions such as hours, permits, seasons, designated areas or lease rules.
- Restricted
- The record describes a restriction. Read the scope and source rather than assuming all nearby coastline is closed.
- Disputed
- Access claims conflict or a documented dispute remains unresolved.
- Unknown
- The available information does not establish the access status.
Document backed
A moderator has checked a linked official source against the stated claim and its mapped location. Read that source, its date and the record's conditions. This label does not make OpenCoast an official authority or turn an approximate drawing into a surveyed legal boundary.
Community reviewed, no official source verified
The record passed moderator review, but an official source has not been verified. It may rely on community observations or other evidence. The map uses distinct visual marks for these records so they can be distinguished from document-backed information.
Dates, boundaries and routes
The last edit date shows when the record changed. It is separate from the date a source was reviewed. Laws, leases and physical routes can change, so check the current information when relying on a record.
Drawn boundaries are approximate unless the source establishes otherwise. Permission to use an area does not establish permission to cross every route leading to it. Coastal ownership, leases, permitted activities and access paths must be considered separately.
Correcting a record
Select the record and suggest a correction. Describe what changed or what is inaccurate, and attach a source when you can. Corrections follow the same moderator review process as new submissions.
